Notes

In general the carvers avoided carving across the border between spirals. In this detail the various elements of the trophy all stop just beneath it, even though some of them have to be crammed in (such as the finial on the helmet). The regularity of the border between spirals also shows that it was planned out before carving on the frieze began, unlike on the Column of Trajan where it seems to have been carved as work on the frieze progressed.
