Description
The series of smaller blocks visible in the corner of this spandrel shows that they were happy to use whatever sized blocks they could get. This does not necessarily mean that they could not get hold of larger blocks - though Pentelic marble is not suitable for very large blocks - but simply that the size of the blocks did not really matter since they would be decorated in such a way that the joints would not have been visible.
