General view of the bottom half of the shaft of the Column of Marcus Aurelius.
This view shows just how crowded the composition of the scenes was. In general the reliefs on this monument are considerably less readable from distance than on the Column of Trajan. Several phase of restoration of this monument (some which ended up causing more damage) mean that quite a few areas of the relief have been altered over time.
