1. Block joint

Description
The block line intersects the heads of the soldiers below suggesting that the carving was undertaken after the blocks were in place.

Notes

It appears that there was a guideline for the spiral border which had to be adjusted when the figure of Trajan was carved because his head intersected where the border was planned to be.
