The carving of specific details of the design which do not impact on its overall form but rather its final visual effect. Detailing might include the addition of depth to facial features, drapery or hair with the drill followed by the channelling tool or the use of the corner of a flat chisel to decorate armour or add patterns to clothing, hair or beards. This is work usually only undertaken once the overall form of the carving is basically complete.
