Description
Visible in this image are the horizontal marks of later repair clamps (on the right) inserted into the monument to hold it together following earthquake damage.

Notes

While the carvers of the Column of Trajan were content to experiment with perspective to a limited degree, especially when representing settlements or encampments within which action was taking place, the carvers on this monument were happy to develop this further. The camp on the left of this image, for instance, is depicted from an almost bird's-eye perspective, while the figures within it are carved in profile.
