Description
The deep channels in the clothing of the emperor have been carved using a channelling tool, possibly following drilling, though signs of the drill are not visible.

Notes

The quality of the emperor's portraits on the Column of Trajan suggest that a specialist carver was responsible but but the range of portrait types identifiable indicates that multiple specialist carvers might have been involved.
