Description
The various different types of carving on this facade are noted in this drawing. The irregular sizes of the blocks is also clear. It is noticeable that the columns were not separate pieces of stone but carved out of the same blocks as the decoration behind them; on the left, an additional block can be seen which was installed to fill in a gap in the column. One gets the impression from these drawings that quite a lot of work was being done on site to fit the various available blocks into the structure as effectively, and with as little waste, as possible.
