Evidence for working practices

1. Block joint

Process
Placement
Description
The joint between two blocks running down the middle of this image shows that the carving of the figures was undertaken only once the blocks were in place. It is possible that the careful detailing on the base of the on the right menorah was carried out as a final phase of work after all the figures and background had been shaped.
