Description
The block division visible here runs right through the emperor's head, clearly showing that detailed carving was only undertaken once the blocks were in place.

Notes

In this scene, as in so many on which the emperor is shown, Trajan occupies the very centre of the scene and most of its height, so though he is not larger than most other figures, he is given more prominence.
