Evidence for working practices

1. Block joint

Process
Placement
Description
The way in which the lines of the fluting cross the joints between blocks clearly shows that this work was only done once all of these blocks were in place.

2. Pin socket

Process
Restoration
Description
Several sections of stone pinned back on to the monument can be seen here. They presumably date from the later restoration campaign, though we should not rule out the possibility that this monument was repaired in the Roman period too.
