Notes

The way in which most of the spirals on the Column of Marcus Aurelius contain two registers of figures is visible here; this is an important contributing factor to the general crowded feel of these scenes. The depth of the relief, compared to the Column of Trajan, does mean that many more details were carved in the round on this monument.
