Detail of the relationship between a soldier and a window frame.
The window in this detail is completely ignored by the carver of the figures around it. The depth of the relief suggests that the window frame and the figurative relief were carved at the same time but the window is supposed to be ignored when reading the relief. The curious proportions of the Roman soldier shown here might result from an error during planning which forced the carver to squeeze his legs into too small a space. The back leg of the horse also seems to be missing.
