In this detail the almost impressionistic quality of the carving of this scene can be appreciated. The drill is used to give rough definition to the leaves within the garland but each leaf is not carefully outlined and modelled. The drill holes provide texture, then, but it was never felt necessary to carve between them and join them up. On the right side of the garland an incised line can be seen which might have been added before carving on the garland began, as a sort of guideline, or could perhaps have been added afterwards to give definition to the edge of the garland.
