Evidence for working practices

1. Toolmarks

Process
Flattening
Tool
Tooth Chisel
Method
Angle: Shallow (40-50°)
Force: Medium
Description
The marks of a tooth chisel held close to the vertical can be seen on this surface. This tool was used roughly to flatten this surface.

2. Block joint

Process
Placement
Description
Block divisions and the holes made by the removal of metal clamps are clearly visible in this image. The clear marks of the tooth chisel on these blocks do not seem to cross the join between blocks which might suggest that the faces of the blocks were separately carved before being put in place.
