Description
A block joints is visible at the bottom of this image. The carving carries across this line without interruption indicating that all of this work was done in place.

Notes

This is a good example of the general disconnectedness of the scale and proportion at which the figures and the scenery are carved. The figures tend all to be of similar sizes but buildings, trees and landscape details are often simply squeezed into place. At the top of the scene a hand can also be seen which is carved into the border. It seems to have been carved with rough stone left around it which the carver of the next spiral then cut the border into.
