Evidence for working practices

1. Block joint

Process
Placement
Description
The block lines visible running through the coffering show that the monument was built out of a range of differently sized blocks. The fact that the carving runs across these blocks without interruption indicates that it was done in place.

2. Clamp socket

Process
Securing
Description
The deep holes all over the reliefs were made by the removal of metal clamps originally used to hold the blocks of the monument in place.
