The channelling tool is used to separate the figures from the background.

3. Toolmarks

Process
Insertion
Description
Unlike the figures to the right which are missing carved weapons or the drill hole for the insertion of a metal one, the figure at the bottom left does have a whole for the insertion of a metal weapon.

Notes

The soldier on the lower left has a drill hole for the insertion of a metal weapon, whereas the soldiers to the right of that figure were likely intended to have a metal weapon inserted but the holes were never drilled. The composition of the figures around the window suggests that the frame and the figures were carved at the same time.
