Flat Chisel
Method

Force: Gentle

The skin of the prince's shoulder is carefully shaped with the flat chisel, as is a line of background running around the figure.

2. - Toolmarks

Process
Fine shaping
Tool
Roundel
Method
Angle: Shallow (40-50°)
Force: Gentle
Description
Marks of a round-headed chisel are also visible on the skin of the shoulder and the background around the figure. This shadow of flat and round-headed chisel around the figure shows where the original roughed-out form of the figure was carved back during the defining process. This also demonstrates that the flattening of the background took place before detailed work on the figure began.
