Description
Clear efforts are taken on the Zoilos Monument to avoid carving the bodies of figures across the joins between blocks, which indicates that they might have been carved before being inserted into the structure. Hands and arms, however, do cross these lines, but are usually carved from separate blocks pinned on. It is possible that some details of the design were finished before the blocks were put together and others - including these arms and hands, as well as background details - only once the panels were inserted into the monument.
