Description
Following drilling a channelling tool was employed to carve between the drill holes and create the deep grooves in the decoration. An especially long channel runs in a curve through the middle of the central plant.

Notes

The two decorated sides of this pier are finished quite differently, perhaps indicating that two or more carvers were involved. This southern side is generally flatter, with the border moulding less carefully modelled and more heavily delineated that on the western side.
