Evidence for working practices

1. Toolmarks

Method
Angle: Steep (60-70°)
Force: Gentle
Description
Point chisel marks can be seen around the head of the spear and along the side of the head, two areas which would have been largely obscured from view from the ground.

2. Clamp socket

Process
Securing
Tool
Metal clamp/pin
Description
A hole for a metal clamp or pin can be seen in the top right corner of this image. This was made to fix the panel in place when it was inserted into the building.

Notes

This is one of the more strangely carved panels on the Sebasteion. The finish is relatively rough and the proportions of the figure slightly awkward - the figure is relatively flat and his head too small.
