Notes

This sarcophagus is decorated with the standard roughed-out garland scheme but the surface finish, which is relatively smooth, shows that this was intended as a final finish. This is an example of the roughed-out garland scheme being adopted as a decorative form in its own right, something which has been noted at numerous sites in Asia Minor and beyond. The inscription on this chest has also been fully carved.
