Evidence for working practices

1. Toolmarks

Process
Polishing
Tool
Abrasives
Description
The very smooth surface of the relief suggests that it was finished with abrasives.

2. Block joint

Process
Placement
Description
Zoilos' right hand was not carved across the join between blocks but rather projected out of the righthand block and was quite possibly carved before these panels were put together on the monument. Alternatively this hand could have been added as a separate block, though no pin hole for attaching it is visible here. Either way, the evidence from elsewhere on the monument suggests that the panels were carved before being set up on the monument.
