Right end of columnar sarcophagus.
The end of this sarcophagus shows how the initial stages of roughing-out were organised more clearly than the front (see PR305_03_22). Following initial roughing-out it was the bottom profile and top of the chest that were shaped, then the capitals and bases of the columns were defined to determine the overall spacing of the architectural framework before any work on the columns, arches or figures began. This shows that the roughing-out process was more broken up than is suggested by the front of this sarcophagus.
