Angle: Vertical (90°)
Force: Hard
Description
The actual carving back to the background plane has also been done with the point chisel but not all over, as the two corners of the front show.

Notes

The way in which this roughing-out was achieved on this sarcophagus is distinctly different from the system observed on other sarcophagi at Aphrodisias (such as PR305_01_03). On this example the form of the garlands and the hanging elements suspended from them are much more carefully marked out before the rest of the stone around them was carved away, while on other examples the design of the garlands is only very roughly blocked-out.
