Description
This quarry is made up of three quarry faces. At the top of this image the two upper faces are visible, both nearly vertical. The lowest of the three quarry faces in the foreground is tunnelled into at the bottom. The geology slopes sharply in this region, as the fissures in the rock show, and the quarrymen probably tunnelled into the face to follow a particularly good vein of white marble.

Notes

This is one of largest quarries of the more than seventy individual extraction points which constitute the so-called City Quarries at Aphrodisias, located roughly 2 km north of the city. White and grey marbles were quarried in this area.
