Description
This figure's right hand was carved as a separate piece of stone and attached to the arm using a metal pin. This technique of piecing is common on Hellenistic and early Roman Imperial statues but rarer later.

Notes

This small togate male statue was originally carved in the early 1st century AD but was later combined with a re-carved head (on the right) of the same period to create a statue of the emperor Theodosius I or II which was set up in the Tetrastoon behind the Theatre in the late 4th or early 5th century AD.
