Description
The surface of the drums making up this shaft were first worked with the tooth chisel, the marks of which are visible in parallel lines running along the lower drum. These strips correspond to the areas of the shaft which will be carved into flutes.

Description
Deep lines have been carved into the middle of the flutes on the top drum. The incising of these lines seems to have been the first stage in the process of carving out the flutes themselves.
