Method
Angle: Steep (60-70°)
Force: Gentle
Description
Point chiselling can be seen on the side of the block.

2. Toolmarks

Process
Fine shaping
Tool
Flat Chisel
Method
Angle: Shallow (40-50°)
Force: Medium
Description
A flat chiselled border was carved around the point chiselled surface on the end of the block so that the edges were carefully shaped.

3. Lifting boss

Process
Placement
Description
A lifting boss, on the bottom right, has been left on this section of the entablature but was presumably used during the process of lifting the block into place on the building.

4. Toolmarks

Process
Lettering
Tool
Flat Chisel
Method
Angle: Shallow (40-50°)
Force: Gentle
Description
The lettering is carved using the corner of a flat chisel. Whether this was done better or after the block was lifted into place is unclear but the letters do cross the joints between blocks and so it would have been easier to carve after the blocks were inserted into the building.
