A guideline is incised into the surface of the shaft to mark where the centre of the middle flute should be, but the fact that it is incised across both sections of the column indicate that it was added or carved again following initial work on the flutes. This line could also mark the division meeting two separate workers since the flutes are carved to a lower point on the right than on the left of this line. This might indicate that each column was worked on by at least two carvers.
