1. Quarry-face

Process
Quarrying
Description
This is the low south side of this quarry which has high quarry-faces on its eastern and northern sides. On this side, however, a set of steps has been carved into the rock-face to allow workers to move between it and the adjacent quarry. This line might well represent the border between two quarries owned by different individuals since there is no obvious reason otherwise to explain why this low ridge of rock was not quarried away.

Notes

This is one of largest quarries of the so-called City Quarries at Aphrodisias and also one of the closest to the city, which is roughly 1.5 km south of here. White and grey marbles were quarried in this area.
