Description
The lines between blocks on the wall in the back are cut using either a very narrow flat chisel or incised using the sharp corner of a larger flat chisel.

Notes

In this detail the extra attention paid to outlining figures when they were depicted against a flat rather than detailed background can be seen. The emperor's hands and lower body here have channels cut around them while his upper body, depicted in front of stone wall, is not outlined. This reflects the fact that outlining was usually only used to define figures against flat surfaces on the Column.
