Description
A tunnel is cut into the quarry-face in this area. The top part of this tunnel is modern but the remains of an ancient tunnel are visible beneath it. Tunnels have been noted in several places in the Bacakale Quarry and show that the Roman quarrymen often followed particularly high-quality veins of marble underground.

Notes

The Bacakale Quarry is the largest quarry at Iscehisar (ancient Dokimeion) and the focus of modern activity. Both white and coloured marble are extracted here, the latter a white-cream breccia with purple veins (pavonazzetto).
