Notes

The Bacakale Quarry is the largest quarry at Iscehisar (ancient Dokimeion) and the focus of modern activity at the site. Both white and coloured marble are extracted here, the latter a white-cream breccia with purple veins (pavonazzetto). These blocks are mainly ancient ones recovered during the clearing of debris piles. They were roughly squared on site and then left ready to be shipped out or abandoned because of flaws.
