The quarry-face in this place is nearly vertical and shows that the ancient quarrymen were able to get large blocks out of this area.

Notes

The Bacakale Quarry is the largest quarry at Iscehisar (ancient Dokimeion) and the focus of modern activity at the site. Both white and coloured marble are extracted here, the latter a white-cream breccia with purple veins (pavonazzetto). This image shows a quarry-face with roughed-out blocks in front, presumably ones recovered from a nearby debris pile.
