Description
This section of shaft has been roughed-out with the point chisel. This work was clearly done while the shaft was still attached to the rock-face since a rough section of stone can be seen along one side where it was split from the bedrock.

Notes

The Bacakale Quarry is the largest quarry at Iscehisar (ancient Dokimeion) and the focus of modern activity. Both white and coloured marble are extracted here, the latter a white-cream breccia with purple veins (pavonazzetto). Numerous roughed-out blocks were found during the removal of ancient spoil as part of modern quarrying activity on the site.
