Description
The ancient quarry face in this image - which has a brown surface - is nearly vertical, indicating that the ancient quarrymen were able to extract large blocks in this area. The modern quarrying activity at the bottom has cut into it.

Notes

The Bacakale Quarry is the largest quarry at Iscehisar (ancient Dokimeion) and the focus of modern activity at the site. Both white and coloured marble are extracted here, the latter a white-cream breccia with purple veins (pavonazzetto).
