Tool
Drill
Method
Vertical (90°)
Description
The drill is employed here to give depth to channels in the coffering; several drill holes are still visible which were not cleared away by later chisel work.

Channelling Tool
Method
Angle: Shallow (40-50°)
Force: Gentle
Description
Some form of channelling tool or narrow chisel was used in conjunction with the drill, though in some places drill holes can be seen which were not carved out by this later stage of work.

Notes

In this detail a slight discordance can be noted between the decoration either side of the central block line which might indicate that this work was done before the blocks were put in place. It is possible too that the block in the corner was a repair, added later, and then carved in place but not quite matching up with what was already there.
