Africano is a breccia conglomerate of white, sometimes pink, limestone clasts in a green-black matrix. It is one of the most widely distributed stones in the Roman world and was quarried near Teos on the Aegean coast of Asia Minor. It is typical used for small columns, revetment and flooring panels. It is first attested at Rome in the 1st century BC.
