Basic and more complicated measuring in stone carving is usually done using callipers. With callipers a carver can take measurements off a model, a sketch or a set of guidelines and apply them to what they are carving, increasing or decreasing them by set multiples as required. Callipers are a simple and effective tool for working out sets of proportions during the carving process.
