Description
The tooth chisel marks are particularly evident on all parts of the face, hair, and beard. It appears that the beard was more finished than the face.

Notes

The entire sculpture is unfinished and was a commission from the grateful city-fathers of Genoa for expelling the French and reestablishing the republic under imperial protection. It seems there were two periods when Bandinelli worked on the piece in 1529 and in 1537-1538 before abandoning the project.
