Description
The statue was roughly shaped to its finished dimensions while still in situ in the quarry. The carvers worked from the front and top, until the piece was carved from the rock on three sides excluding the back which was still attached.

Notes

On the left hand side of the image there is a ledge of rock which if removed would have greatly helped the efficiency and access of the carved who was presumably working, because of the narrow conditions, underneath the edge of statue. This is from the Outer quarries.
