The re-employment of a stone object for the same or difference purpose from that for which it was originally intended. Re-use of architectural elements and sometimes works of art was very common in the Roman period and especially the post-Roman period. It was a lot easier and cheaper to adapt an already existing object for use than go through the trouble of quarrying and carving one from scratch.
