Monuments: Aphrodisias: Theatre

The theatre at Aphrodisias was originally constructed in the Late Hellenistic period but its form as it exists today largely dates from the Augustan period, when it was remodelled under G. Iulius Zoilos. At some point under either Claudius or Nero further changes were made to the theatre, with the addition of an entranceway, two side entrances (parodoi) onto the cavea, and further retaining walls. This work was paid for my Aristokles Molossos and his son and seems to have expanded the size of the theatre. More
