Description
The roughed-out garland design is worked with the point chisel.

Notes

The right end of this sarcophagus is roughed-out as a garland sarcophagus. It is possible that this design was originally on all sides of the sarcophagus and was then altered on the front. If this were the case we might imagine that the commissioner changed their mind or acquired a garland sarcophagus that they then wanted to be changed. Alternatively the garland design might have been deliberately applied just to the ends with the front differently designed from the very beginning.
