Flat chiselling can be seen on the figures, especially the arm of Sea.

Notes

The fact that the figure of Sea in this detail is carved down into the base of the panel suggests that the composition was not entirely planned out before work began. In order to fit this figure in the carver had to use the space which had originally been assigned to the border.
