Description
The holes between these blocks were made by the removal of metal clamps, which were originally used to fix them in place. A shallow channel for excess lead to drain away from this clamp hole can be seen on the right of this hole.

Notes

In this image the course of travertine blocks at the bottom and the course of marble ones on top can be seen. The irregular size of these blocks should be noted.
