Drill holes are visible in the foliage moulding at the top of the chest.

Attic sarcophagi like this are typically carved in very deep relief. The drill must have been used to achieve this depth but the carvers also used the flat chisel, perhaps one with a long shaft, to get in behind the figures in this scene.
