Description
The lines between the fingers of this figure's hand seem to have been cut using a channelling tool of some sort.

Notes

The tool being used by this soldier looks like a point chisel, suitable for stone- rather than wood-carving. Perhaps the figure carver thought that the background carver was going to put a stone wall in here and he instead opted for a wooden one (implying a lack of specific instructions), or perhaps the carver was simply more interested in depicting stone-carving tools.
